Black Composite Woodgrain Step Edge 4.8m

Our Black Composite Woodgrain Step Edge Board is designed to give your decking a safe, attractive finish wherever steps or exposed edges are present. It creates a clear border between deck levels, helps protect the front edges of the boards and delivers a smart, coordinated look around the entire deck.

Each step edge profile is approximately 4.8m long and 140mm wide, with a 50mm return and 24mm thickness. The board features a detailed woodgrain effect on the top surface, offering the appearance of painted or stained timber with the long-term benefits of composite construction.

Made from a blend of recycled wood fibres and plastic, this step edge board is highly durable, resistant to rot and splintering, and requires very little maintenance. It is an excellent choice for finishing steps, raised platforms and perimeter edges in busy outdoor spaces.

Plan the layout of the step edge boards along your deck perimeter or step fronts and measure each section carefully.

Cut the Black step edge to length using suitable tools for composite materials, ensuring straight, accurate cuts.

Position the step edge so that the main surface sits on top of the decking and the 50mm return neatly covers the exposed front edge or riser.

Pre-drill fixing points along the board where it will be secured, avoiding positions too close to the edges, and spacing the holes at regular intervals for even support.

Fix the step edge in place using appropriate outdoor screws, driving them through the pre-drilled holes into the underlying structure and checking that the profile remains level and secure.

If joining multiple step edge boards in a run, leave a small expansion gap of around 2mm between lengths to allow for natural movement and maintain a clean finish.
